Globalization and the widespread adoption of ICT have resulted in a move to a knowledge-based economy. Information communication technology has significantly changed the world in the last two decades, creating new patterns of social and economic interaction, and transforming lifestyles, work and communications.

School learning activities that involve the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to support and enhance learning include the effective use of digital resources and learning tools, collaboration with colleagues and mentors in other locations, the experience of a virtual environment, caters for a wide range of learning abilities and styles, empowers learners with responsibility for their own learning experience which acts as a catalyst for authentic, meaningful learning.

Information and Communication Technology also offers powerful new possibilities for teacher professional development, student engagement and meaningful school/community integration. It also enhances life-long learning skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving, research and analytical skills.

Fort Bonifacio High School at present is maintaining computer laboratories in building 1, 2 and e-library with internet connections. Another computer laboratory will be operational this coming school year that will cater a regular computer class as one of the specialization in Technology and home Economics. The two computer laboratories are used for computer literacy and for research during vacant periods. The 10 computers sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry that are installed at the library are intended mainly for research. The school also started putting up computer equipments and televisions in the first three sections of all year levels (6 rooms) enabling teachers to use the equipments for instruction purposes. The school website was launched not only to showcase the school but was really built to facilitate communication between the school populace and the community.

The school head also assigned ICT coordinator and teacher technician that are responsible for coordinating issues and concerns involving computer related technical problems that should be addressed immediately and in implementing ICT programs.

To intensify the integration of technology in learning activities of students, the school is now on the process of coming up with policies regarding the scheduling of classes from different subject areas on the use of computers. The school is also planning to put up additional computer equipments and television sets inside the classrooms that will be used by teachers and students for instruction and learning.

To sustain the implementation of ICT in teaching and learning, the school has already started series of technology literacy trainings to teachers of all subject areas and shall continue the trainings on how these teachers will use their acquired skill to enhance life long learning by acting as facilitators of learning, teaching learners how to learn through research and data gathering with the use of modern and available technologies in the environment. To sustain the program during the implementation, the school is being supported locally by the city government of Makati in terms of physical facilities maintenance together with the computers and wireless internet connection. A second link of internet connection in building 2 is now being maintained through the support of the schools fund. The ICT coordinator and school computer technician are in charge of coordinating with the supplier’s technicians on repairs and maintenance of the computers. The school allocate funds from the MOOE and other school funds to shoulder recurring costs and continuous professional development, replacements of parts and maintenance to sustain the program.

The PTCA and the school alumni association have been very active in participating in the school’s welfare through various fund raising activities that helped the school acquire equipments being used now inside the classrooms. The school heads together with the ICT coordinator layout plans and proposals to the PTCA officers and alumni association officers and members to support the continuous professional development and acquisition of additional equipments to support ICT enhanced programs.

Teachers from English, Math and Science have already undergone Intel Teach to the Future Program. Two Math teachers implemented recently an Intel Professional development program to English, Math, Science, Filipino and MAKABAYAN teachers in coordination with the school’s ICT Coordinator. About 90 percent of the total number of teachers in the school are already computer literate and about 25 percent know how to use the technology as their tool to enhance learning among students through various activities including research. The use of internet facilities in the computer room have been maximized due to research works assigned to students. The creativity and innovativeness of students have been developed in documenting their learning through their portfolio.

ICT classes in FBHS is an add on subject in TLE subject. It caters students from first year to fourth year level. Students by sections and year level are scheduled to undergo computer literacy class for one grading following the set desired learning competency (DLC) for each year level.
